Soaker of a next few days in W. Oregon!
Soaker of a next few days in W. Oregon!
A wet couple of days across the region as an atmospheric river arrives— the heaviest rain will likely be just to our north, in an axis between Olympia and Portland. Anywhere from 2-5 inches of rain could fall in this area, with 1-3 inches of rain in the lowlands from now until Friday a decent bet. With rivers already high and this atmospheric river bringing rising snow levels— flooding could occur on some susceptible rivers. As a whole, keep your eye on the road conditions, especially for coastal roads into the weekend. Have a lovely Wednesday. — Kavin Iyengar

“We will regain control and authority over our resources to do what is pono (just) because we must preserve them for the generations to come. There are more battles on this issue. We’re not making suggestions to the military. We are making demands.”
The US Navy has leaked over 180,000 gallons of petroleum into the groundwater aquifer at the Red Hill fuel storage facility in Hawai’i. Operations at Red Hill were put on pause after hundreds of military families living near Pearl Harbor reported illnesses from drinking the water this past November.
Despite clear evidence of leaks and danger posed by the facility, the US Navy has ignored calls from residents and the state government to drain and close down the facility. The Hawai'i Department of Health affirmed the order to shut down fuel tanks, on Monday, Jan. 3. Members of the Progressive International Council called for the immediate closure of the facility and reparations to be issued to victims.
