If the sound of rain on the roof helps lull you to sleep, plan for a healthy dose of zzz’s tonight as rounds of showers will persist into the overnight, with some rain turning heavy at times. Tomorrow morning’s commute will indeed be a soggy one but the dripping and dropping will become more intermittent during the afternoon as high pressure builds into the region. Friday morning may feature fog, otherwise, a rare dry end to the workweek will be bestowed upon us. Reporting from Shreya Raman in The Third Pole reveals how climate change exasperates vulnerabilities for women in Bihar, India. After flooding events, women are exposed to more violence and human trafficking according to Raman. 

“In India, extreme weather events tend to lead to greater out-migration, especially in marginalized communities. Men more often migrate to other parts of the country to work, and women are left behind with few income opportunities.” wrote Raman. “Thus, male children are considered sources of income while female children are often seen as burdens; the high prevalence of dowry payments upon marriage contributes to this. This preference for sons perpetuates discrimination and violence against women and girls by putting added pressure on women to give birth to male children.”
