The weather, currently
Sunny and hot with a calm wind.
Sunny and hot with a calm wind.
This weekend, ask someone older than you for an October hurricane story. They may be family history handed down like linens, fine china, or the stuff of nightmares. Understanding ourselves and where we come from includes how we survived hurricanes and the far too swift grip of climate change. In our past survival are clues to how our culture can thrive in our present and future.
It’ll be sunny with a high of 87F, and lows in the upper 60s. Tonight will be clear, the wind light and calm. Weather safe enough for the heart to tell these kinds of stories.—J.J. Ravencroft

Currently’s Los Angeles weather reporter, Renée Reizman, was interviewed for Mic about Currently, and the future of weather reporting during the climate emergency.
Reizman is quoted in the story saying, “I’m trying to find a way to write the weather in a way that’s still informative, but a little bit more interesting and offbeat and ties into infrastructure connections whenever I can.”
Read more about the future of meteorology and why climate focus weather reporting in the era of extreme weather is so essential here.
