Notice of forthcoming RFP: 2021-2022 Graduate Student Research Restart Program
CSUPERB aims to assist graduate student researchers across CSU system as they restart, reinitiate and re-engage in existing and established biotechnology research activities after campus laboratory closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Graduate Student Research Restart Program will provide one-time funding for Summer 2021 and/or the 2021-22 Academic Year and will be open to both master’s and doctorate level graduate students. This program will not fund research activities started after campus COVID-19 closures and research not impacted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Graduate students may perform the research over Summer 2021 or stretch it out over the following fall and spring semesters of the 2021-22 Academic Year.
The RFP, template and application information will be released through our CSUPERB email list and posted on our website: https://www.calstate.edu/csuperb
If you would like to join our email list, please reach out us at csuperb@sdsu.edu

CSUPERB held its second virtual Seed Grant Program peer review on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Our sincere thanks go out to the more than 50 faculty from 21 of the 23 CSU campuses who generously volunteered to serve on peer review panels, spending the full day discussing and scoring proposals and providing multiple written reviews for applicants. Review outcomes will be sent to applicants in the next two weeks.
The Seed Grant program includes four distinct grant mechanisms, Curriculum Development, Industry Partnership Initiative, New Investigator and Research Development. These grants all fund 18-month projects submitted by tenured/tenure-track CSU faculty for up to $15,000. Most seed grants involve graduate and undergraduate students with hands-on research experience. New Requests for Proposals (RFPs) are released in August each academic year with deadlines on the first Monday of February of the following year. Award decisions are issued in late April so that awarded faculty can begin their projects that summer.
Interested faculty can see a sample of this year’s RFPs and proposal templates in the CSUPERB program portfolio but should look for the new RFPs and templates when they are released in August, 2021. Those interested in being added to CSUPERB’s announcement group list should send an email to csuperb@sdsu.edu. You’ll be included when all grant and award programs are formally announced each year.
