Live Events Are Better - Copenhagen - Issue #75

Issue #74 — View online — Suggest a link

The insider newsletter for tech and startup events in Greater Copenhagen (that means Malmö too).

Several of you kindly wrote to offer your offices as spaces for meetups and startup events in Copenhagen, which is generous. And it’s very much the current status quo. There’s a spreadsheet that circulates amongst the organizers that tries to track who offers what space, what AV facilities they have and whether or not they offer to pay for pizza. And it’s better than nothing.
What Malmö and Stockholm have is a huge step better. Think feature phones vs smartphones. If you watch this space for long enough, you see most event series last at most three years. The leading reason is burnout. After three years, the drag of calling all over town to find somewhere to be and begging people to pay for the pizza gets old - and it takes time away from the hard work of finding speakers, creating content, and building communities.
Malmö and Stockholm have ‘homes for startup/tech events’ where organizers don’t have to stress finding a place to hold their event or even having to find someone to pay for the food and drinks. Copenhagen does not.
If you’re a startup looking to raise money, keep a close eye on the list of investor events updated by the amazing Zenia Francker, Director of Investments at Digital Hub Denmark.
Please use the “suggest an event” link found at the top and bottom of this newsletter or email to share an event. Complaints and questions about any of the above go to the same address.
