The perfect Croque Monsieur 🇫🇷

The perfect Croque Monsieur 🇫🇷
By CookUp • Issue #14 • View online
This week we’ll dive into the French Croque Monsieur. Served as a quick snack at cafés and bars since 1910. The name is based on the verb croquer (“to crunch”) and the word monsieur (“mister”).
Traditionally made with French ham and Gruyere cheese pressed between two slices of bread and preferably topped with a béchamel sauce. Let’s get to it and cook up some delicious croque monsieur of your own.

“I don’t have a pet, but I dream of someday getting a pug dog whom I will name Croque Monsieur so that I may alternate between calling him Croque, Monsieur or his full name: Croque Monsieur. I’ll more than likely only use his first and last name most often when he’s been bad.” — John Gallagher, Jr.
