The Colette Gazette - July 23, 2021
The mission of The Colette Louise Tisdahl Foundation is to improve outcomes of pregnancy, childbirth, prematurity, and infancy, as well as aid in the grieving process through financial assistance, education, and advocacy
Dear {{first_name}},
Well, it’s official…we have a one year old! Our little guy Elliott turned one on July 14 and then we had a very small party with just our immediate families on July 17. We are so lucky to have this little guy in our lives and wow, does he keep us on our toes! He even figured out how to open the childproof gate that blocks him off from certain parts of the house. Elliott certainly enjoyed his smash cake, as you can see from the pictures below.
We also started a new family tradition of pictures on what we lovingly call “Colette’s benches” that we donated to Evanston Women’s Hospital, where we had both Colette and Elliott. You can see the picture from when we left the hospital with Elliott and our Coco bear, and you can see the picture from this year.
Creating family traditions has been so important to us and often, with an angel baby, it is hard to keep those traditions. We will be having a discussion with our friends at the Recurrent Pregnancy Loss Association about ways to remember your losses and it will then be uploaded to our You Tube channel. We would love to know more about your family traditions, especially for those of you who commemorate a loss as well. Share them with us!
Our family is going to be traveling next week and trying to get away from our street that is undergoing construction and into nature, peace, quiet, and fun! We are headed a few hours away to a cabin in Galena, Illinois. If you have been, we would love suggestions of activities, places to eat, and things to do.
In the meantime, we are working away. While we are closed to new applications, we are still processing all the applications that were already submitted as well as working on other pieces, like our education and advocacy. We are excited to share more with you as things develop!
We also are looking to grow our advisory board and are looking for people with a passion (and preferably experience) for helping families in crisis who are dealing with high-risk pregnancies or pregnancies with complications, NICU stays current or past, and loss. More details below, but email me or respond to this email if you are interested and want to learn more.
We have also been creating a new series, Featured Families, which will highlight and tell the story of one of the families we have helped through our financial assistance program. You will find the first ones on our website or via the links later in the newsletter.
Hope you are all having a great summer so far. We would love to hear about and see all the fun you are having so please share! Continue to have a safe, fun, and healthy summer!

What We're Doing
Since our last newsletter, we have helped families in Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina.
We are currently on a break from accepting new applications and are processing all the applications we currently have. We will reopen on July 29 to new applications.

How We're Feeling
Huge mega shoutouts go to Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois and Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachussetts for introducing the Support through Loss Act this week. The proposed bill would require employers to provide three days paid leave to workers who suffered a pregnancy loss, failed adoption, or failed assisted reproductive technology procedure. It would also require more information on pregnancy loss to be disseminated by the Department of Health and Human Services as well as more research to be done on pregnancy loss by the National Institutes of Health. Read more about this very important proposed legislation here.
A HUGE thank you goes to everyone who has donated to our July push for a special fund under our financial assistance program!
Ways to Help
We have made a significant stride in donations to our special fund, but we would love to increase the amount in our fund to help families with additional, more complicated needs. No donation too small (or too big!).
If you are able to, donate here! We have a variety of options: a one-time donation, a monthly donation, and a round-up donation, where your purchases are automatically rounded up to the nearest dollar and donated.
Already donated? Share with a friend (or two, or ten!)
Can’t donate now? Share with someone who can!
Advisory Board
Additionally, we are looking for individuals who would be interested in joining our advisory board. Our board members assist in fundraising, marketing, and how to best serve families. This is a volunteer position and anyone can be on the board. We have a special preference for NICU parents, loss parents, high-risk and complicated pregnancy survivors, medical and other professionals that work with moms, babies, and families, but there is not a requirement. If you are interested, contact us for further information.
