The Colette Gazette - April 30, 2021
The mission of The Colette Louise Tisdahl Foundation is to improve outcomes of pregnancy, childbirth, prematurity, and infancy, as well as aid in the grieving process through financial assistance, education, and advocacy
Dear {{first_name}},
Hope your April has been good for you! We have been busy and May is looking busy as well. We took a short, but very necessary break from applications and returned last week and are back in the swing of things.
I am so excited that Nina Chicago, which is my favorite local yarn shop in the area, has created an event, Baby Blankets for a Cause, with 10% of sales of specific yarns until May 15 donated to our financial assistance fund. Yarn does not have to be used to make a baby blanket. There is also a free make a long that will meet virtually on May 1, 8, and 15 for knitting, crocheting, or general dialog. I will be participating and answering questions about the foundation, my experiences, and anything else! Shop for yarn and/or join us for the make a long!
In May, we have video education conversations with Ali Lazar on baby and child sleep, with Amanda Hahn on maternal mental health, and with Brianna Towne on nutrition with a focus on recovery after loss. We would love to hear your questions to include these. Submit questions here.
We are also looking for writers for our Friday Five series and our video education presentations on the following broad topics: parenting, pregnancy, maternal health, infant health, children’s health, maternal mental health, children’s mental health, child loss, infertility. If you are interested, send me an email or schedule a chat with me!
We have also been spring cleaning, something that I love. I hate clutter and feel so free when things are cleared out and feel fresh and new. With that in mind, we are hosting an online silent auction featuring donated items that we were not able to use for our Brunch Bowl, which was postponed due to Covid. The auction will run from May 8 to May 31, which represents our journey with Colette, from the day I was hospitalized with severe preeclampsia to the day Colette gained her angel wings. It also includes the two miscarriages I had with Sweet Pea, on May 12 and May 17. And of course, it is the month in which we celebrate International Bereaved Mother’s Day on May 2 and Mother’s Day in the United States on May 9.
But, before we close out April, remember that today is the last day where signing up for this newsletter means a donation of $5.23 to our financial assistance program. Welcome to all the new subscribers! We have already raised more than $100, but would love to raise even more. Invite friends, family, colleagues, and more to sign up here.
Wishing you all the best!
Michelle

What We're Doing
We helped families in Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania!
During our break, we also filmed video education presentations with Erin Brown and Meg McKeen on Imposter Syndrome and with Monique Wheeler on Acupuncture. You can find these on our You Tube channel. We would love if you would subscribe too!
We also have three video education presentations scheduled in May. We would love to host more so if you might be interested in the video education or our Friday Five, email me or schedule a call here.
Upcoming Dates to Know
What We're Reading
  1. In honor of Earth Day that was celebrated just last week, we love this list of books to read to children to encourage them to care about the environment.
  2. Black Maternal Health is in crisis in the United States. It is so critical that we all work on addressing this issue and protecting moms. We love the brave individuals and organizations who are leaders in this movement. Read more about these heroes and their work here.
  3. Often infertility is looked at as something separate from loss, but we know through personal experience that infertility is a series of losses. We love this article which talks about things never to say to someone experiencing infertility.
In case you missed it...

Shoutouts
Shoutout to Nina Chicago for featuring us for their Baby Blankets for a Cause. Now through May 15, this local yarn shop (Michelle’s favorite) will be donating 10% of the proceeds from certain yarns. And either way, if you want to join for virtual make a long as we knit and crochet, please join here.
Shoutout to Greater Chicagoland Neonatal Nurses for making us the benficiary of their Virtual Yoga Event this week. If you missed it, you can still donate to get the link and experience the virtual event!
