Happy New Year!
I love reflecting and planning after New Year’s. It gives me a chance to sit down and talk to myself.
I have goals and resolutions like most. I still want to get back to my post-pregnancy weight. I want to learn more about design and accessibility. I also want to grow my business, Diversify Tech.
Last year, I learned about focusing on systems rather than goals from Atomic Habits. I came up with a way to get myself to read more. I listened to a book every time I went to pick up my daughter from daycare. The drive is short, 20 minutes. With that, I was actually able to listen to 13 books in total! My goal was to read a book per month.
I’m trying to do the same this year with my other goals. I am looking for processes that will help me succeed. I haven’t figured them out yet but I am experimenting.
I’d love to hear about your goals for this year. Reply and let me know!

P.S. I almost didn’t send this newsletter today. I was feeling grim. I was thinking what is the point when the world is falling apart around us. I found this thread by Ijeoma Oluo helpful. Not doing anything isn’t going to help. I’ve added another resolution for myself this year. I won’t be a passive citizen anymore!
As one of just few faces of color in the tech world, computer scientist Rediet Abebe is shaking things up and will make history as the first Black woman
Asking what the best way to get into tech is is the wrong question to ask. With so many routes into tech, I wouldn't say one route is better than another. Everyone's journey is different. No matter the route you take, just give your best to it. #LearnToCode#BlackTechTwitter
I know many of you work on side-projects, projects where you don't have the benefit of a product & design team. I'm betting a bunch of y'all have goals to create something new in 2020!
Thought I'd share a thread with all my favourite resources:
Very excited to announce my first book about #accessibility - This book is meant for those who are new to accessibility and looking to learn more about it.
