Halló! They said 2016 is the year when VR goes from virtual to reality. New research by Strategy Analytics reveals only 6% of the American adults will have bought a VR headset by Christmas (consolation: iPhone sales were similar in 2009, two years after it launched). That number will grow to 15% by 2017, and then rise to 25% the following year. It is, after all, a nascent technology…
In other news, did you know that Twitter just hired a VR manager? (Oh wait: then fired him only a day later!).
In better news, it’s a jam-packed edition of the CinematicVR newsletter.
We’ve got a provocative article by Devon & Michael about the need for a new paradigm for VR and 360 content distribution. Then there’s the eminent Michael Naimark who clarifies “interactivity” in VR, and urges you to better understand foundation principles. (If you’ve got the time, I recommend you also read his VR Cinematography Studies).
Preordered your Daydream yet? Frustratingly, the Pixel XL phone remains out of stock, but hopefully you will find a way. In the meantime, enjoy this Daydream vs. Samsung Gear comparison.
Oh, and check out Hear360. Verrrry interesting.
See you next week,
