Yesterday, we learned of Facebook’s surprise decision to create a blockchain division. I asked you for your worst ideas about what Facebook could do here, and you did not disappoint. Or rather, you disappointed me in exactly the way I hoped you would — with enough bad ideas to support a user-generated lead item today.
Here are your ideas for Facebook on the blockchain, by category:
1. Make a Facebook token, distribute it to users, and instantly create a giant economy. Four people voted for calling this PokeCoin, making it by far the most popular suggestion. Others included FaceCoin, LikeCoin, NotAMediaCompanyCoin, and HumanCoin.
2. Acquiring Coinbase and renaming it CoinFace. I mean, some big company is going to be the Yahoo of the 2010s and try to buy Coinbase cheap, right?
4. 7-minute confirmation times for likes. This is a joke about cryptocurrencies but I enjoyed it anyway!
Anyway, even worse responses, dive into my mentions. And if you’re wondering about my promise to bring you something more on Android P’s new Time Well Spent-inspired features, check The Verge on Thursday morning — and this newsletter tomorrow evening.
