Connecting the dots inside this newsletter.

Hi there coffee-and-newsletter fan,
Where in the world is Casey Lau-Diego? This update, I know is a long time coming…
Since our last coffee inside a newsletter I have been to Montreal, Victoria, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Colombo, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Bangkok, Lisbon, New York and am typing this in Dublin on my way back to Hong Kong….

Adidas and me.
Adidas and me.
Biggest 3 things that have happened since the last email newsletter:
  1. StartupsHK has been re-branded as StartupsGBA - we are all in doing the same work in HK and now including the Greater Bay Area. Read more.
  2. RISE and Web Summit were bigger and better than ever and we had some amazing talks and events - watch me onstage of Day 1 of RISE and Web Summit.
  3. And we announced we are postponing RISE 2020 till 2021 because of the safety concerns in Hong Kong. Read more.
I am personally very sad about the current state of affairs in Hong Kong - a city I have called home for the past 20 years - and I am currently evaluating my options in moving my homebase (well homebase as much as I can have with all the traveling) to Shenzhen, Tokyo or Taipei as potentials, but will wait till after CNY to make a final call.
The cat and me.

I recently celebrated a birthday as well, and wanted to share 3 things I have done/learned since the last birthday:
Intermittent Fasting - I started doing this one year ago after reading The Obesity Code and its changed my life - I haven’t been this fit since high school! It has now become a way of life and I use the Zero and MyFitnessPal apps to track my progress everyday as I would check any other app on my iPhone.
Vegetarianism vs Veganism - I tried a Pescatarian diet as a result of visiting Okinawa but felt I was losing protein from not enough meat - it turns out I was dumb - so after watching The Game Changers I’ve gone full vegetarian but draw the line at full vegan…for now. Let me know if you’ve changed diets recently - it’s interesting to me to see how people are changing what they eat as we get new data to educate us.
High Blood Pressure - I did get diagnosed with HBP and have to take a daily pill to keep it down. I am always experimenting on removing foods from my diet to see if I can naturally lower it. Send me your HBP stories if you have them. Since I started on the daily pills I have been feeling a lot better and test and track with a BP monitor and the Health Mate app.

What am I watching/reading:
  1. Rick and Morty Season 4
  2. The Mandalorian Season 1
  3. Watchmen Season 1
  4. Doctor Sleep
  5. Fantastic Four Grand Design
  6. The Immortal Hulk
  7. Jonathan Hickman’s new take on X-Men
  8. Building a Storybrand
  9. Super Pumped
  10. Why We Sleep

Lastly, this truly may be the last newsletter I do in this format - I’ve decided to really (really this time I have 2 cameras to prove it) try my hand at Vlogging and so the next email you get from me will be to announce that the YouTube channel is finally up and that you can SEE instead of just reading about my adventures in tech, travel, digital nomadism, cats, pop culture, and more. Don’t worry, if you are reading this you will be alerted when episodes go up until you’ve “clicked liked and subscribed” on YouTube.
My next stops can always be tracked here.
Last event I’ll be attending in 2019 is Taipei Startup Week - join me.
