Back from Lisbon

hello from the hyper room
Back from Lisbon
The only difference from 2019, was that everyone in the audience was wearing a mask.
The only difference from 2019, was that everyone in the audience was wearing a mask.
I did it.
I survived my first round trip international flight in 2 years. And from the looks of it many of you reading this also did it and joined me at Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal.
Quick notes on the trip:
  • PCR test 72 hours before. Yes it’s the one then stick that thing right up your nose. Now that’s a new sensation I didn’t want to have.
  • When I got to my gate no one at Air Canada knows what the test situation is in Portugal anyways.
  • Everyone on the flight was wearing a mask but there were no empty seats. But I’m heading to a 40k person event and already mentally ready.
  • Landed in Portugal to a 2-hour queue at immigration at 5am and the customs officer didn’t even talk to me or ask me for any paperwork - I am guessing if I got on the plane I must be ok?
  • On route back very similar situation. Stressed out to make sure I got the PCR test done again in time, filled out the Arrive Canada app and all the customs officer wanted to know was if I was bring in any tobacco and alcohol.
So, I can’t say that its safe to fly but they are 100% back to normal! LOL also </cry>.
Our conference security was very tight and there were testing labs all over the place in shipping containers with email results coming super fast. I did a few tests while I was there since they were free for staff and also once you get one stick up the nose well it doesn’t get easier but it’s worth it for peace of mind.
The show it self was great. Read my LinkedIn post here. Wow 22,000 views of it so far.
Tons of amazing photos here
What an experience.
Some of the news that came out of Web Summit:

Are big conferences back? Maybe. We had an entire country and all its government officials helping us in a country that has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world. But there has been a big surge in Covid cases a week later in Austria, Germany and Holland so maybe we were lucky in Portugal.
It’s super interesting to see how Europe, North America and Asia are all facing the pandemic today 2 years later. I don’t know which is the right way but it’s more important for your own mental health to decide which works for you.
For me, I had to get out there. I can’t hide out any more. I’m going to LA in a few weeks and then…Hong Kong!
