Here’s the conclusion of a research piece I read recently:
Apparently, a larger personal network is important for older adults (50+) to be more satisfied with life. Our results suggest that this relation is particularly positive if the network is comprised of family members.
Because of covid, physical relationships are becoming harder to maintain, and many friendships are digital-first. As noted yesterday, screen time is booming. While this increase is mainly due to TV, social networks (and online communities) play a role. Here are some of the flagships:
Facebook: Over 50% of people on Facebook are 65 and over. People over 50 are the fastest-growing demographic on the platform. But, there’s nothing ‘bespoke’ for this older demographic on Facebook. 
Highway61: Think Clubhouse for over-65s. With >1,000 members (according to their website), and less than a year old, age-targeted social networks like this could be massive. Facebook may naturally migrate into this category, however.
Nextdoor: Nextdoor is a location-based network. During the first lockdown (as a member) I saw it was beneficial: neighbours were supporting neighbours:
