Morning Innovators
When Monty and I had covid, we were lucky: we only had blisters on our fingers and toes.
For some people, however, covid can cause symptoms that last for months after the infection has gone. This is sometimes called post-COVID-19 syndrome or “long COVID”.
No one knows why some are subject to long COVID, but it happens to 10% of those infected.
Yesterday, the University of Birmingham launched a £2.2m government-funded research project to improve the treatment, causes and symptoms of long COVID.
“People living with Long COVID have indicated that they feel abandoned and dismissed by healthcare providers, and receive limited or conflicting advice.“
These feelings would be particuarly acute if the individual is isolated and vulerable.
Med-tech outfit Aparito will provide patients with devices to self-report their wellbeing throughout the trial.
Major £2.2m research project aims to improve treatment and understanding of Long COVID
I’m looking forward to reading the results.
Have a super weekend
Hector
