Three Approaches to the Office
At the risk of over-simplifying, I’m seeing companies take one of three general approaches here:
-
Full In-Person. A small percentage of startups are back to the office and are committed to local hiring only.
-
Full-Remote. A larger percentage are happy with remote-first, and are committed to that approach indefinitely.
-
Hybrid. Everyone else, including Apple and Google, is trying to encourage 2-3 in-person days/week at any one of several offices around the country.
While there are many valid reasons to pursue a hybrid option, one of you described it last week as a “really high degree of difficulty problem.” This may be the understatement of the year.
