Kenny, a Music Teacher who works at two of our junior school campuses, answers our Q&A about working at the BSN and living in The Netherlands. #BSNTeachLiveLearn

Is BSN your first teaching position abroad?
I have worked as an instrumental music teacher and workshop facilitator in Argentina, Spain, Ireland, Canada, China and The Netherlands before joining the BSN.
What inspires you about teaching in an international context?
The rich cultural blend.
What inspired you to apply for The BSN in particular?
The professionalism of the staff, commitment to deliver the best possible education for children and the possibilities for professional development.
What was the biggest adjustment/challenge when moving to The Netherlands?
Well, I’ve lived here for 15 years now. I guess back then was being away from family and the dark winters.

What’s the best thing about living in The Netherlands?
Great music/cultural scene and how easy is to get around (bike or transportation).
What advice would you give a new colleague on their first day at BSN?
Be yourself and don’t be shy to ask for help.
What’s the most valuable lesson about Teaching you have learned since joining the BSN?
Utilise the expertise and creativity of the teaching community to enhance your own practice.
What was the most recent profession development course/workshop you have done?
I’ve just started an iPGCE (International Post Graduate Certificate in Education).
Describe BSN in 3 words?
Positive, inclusive, progressive.
What do you do to unwind after a busy day at school?
Play the saxophone or practise Yoga.
What’s your favourite destination for a weekend getaway?
With good weather I’d rather stay in The Hague and enjoy the beach at the quiet Zuiderstrand
Who inspires you?
Kind and hard working people.
