Our school is musical. Students are encouraged to perform and are given every opportunity to do so. This might be as part of the junior or senior school curricula or through our many co-curricular activities. There are
many benefits to studying music e.g. learning an instrument at a young age stimulates the brain in a unique way.
Each junior school has acoustically designed music rooms and an impressive range of musical instruments and equipment at their disposal. Senior School students benefit from an extensive music technology suite - with individual terminals and keyboards for composition and music technology work, a modern fully equipped recording studio and practice rooms for instrumental teaching. All students in Years 7 to 9 receive music lessons and a considerable number then elect to continue with the subject for GCSE and beyond.
This week, we are advertising for a Head of Music at our Senior School Voorschoten. The Music Department proudly showcases over ten events per academic year including three end of term concerts as well as a musical in collaboration with the other Performing Arts departments.
Musical ensembles provide a great opportunity for students to collaborate on performances and work together in a relaxed and fun but stimulating environment. Clubs, groups and ensembles available at BSN include: BSN Strings, Concert Band, Flute choir, Orchestra, Junior Choirs, Swing Band, Shine and many others.
We also have strong musical links with the local community. The BSN Community Choir - made up of staff, students and parents from across the BSN - has taken part in a number of large-scale performances. All our campuses also take music into the local Dutch community, especially during the Christmas period. Children from the junior schools go into residential homes for the elderly to perform, or sing traditional carols for Dutch children in local schools. The Senior School Choir and Swing Band performs on stage in local shopping centres to raise money for charity.
