The British School in The Netherlands - News & Jobs
We’re almost there: the end of the school year! Term-time staff are working hard to complete all their tasks and are looking forward to their well-earned holidays. PE and Dance Teacher/Gymnastics Coach, Rebecca, however, won’t be returning to the BSN after her holiday; she will begin a new chapter in her international teaching career elsewhere. Rebecca looks back on her time at BSN and what those 5 years have brought her:

I joined the BSN September 2015 as an NQT. I decided to come to the BSN purely because of the advertised job: PE Teacher with gymnastics & dance specialism – a perfect fit for me. It was my first international post and as a 24 year old, moving abroad should have been a pretty daunting task, especially as I knew very little about the Netherlands. But, it wasn’t scary at all! The BSN helped me with every aspect of the move, and it was super easy to adapt to life in the Netherlands.

The Netherland is an amazing country to live in! Everything works so efficiently, it’s clean, and the Dutch generally live a care-free, happy, family focused life. I feel there is something for everyone here in Holland. I decided to live in the Hague as I grew up near the coast so being close to the ocean was the biggest selling point to me. The city is amazing! One of my favourite cities ever. I made international friends easily and joined many clubs with my limited Dutch language skills – everyone’s English is super good!

The BSN has helped me grow in the first five years of my career and they really invested in me as a practitioner. I have attended several sports coaching courses, received funding for my MA degree, completed registered Leadership courses, and taken on additional posts of responsibility. The BSN really cares about its staff and provides many opportunities to help you develop as a professional. BSN also provides additional support for you to explore your own personal interests and develop in areas outside of teaching.

I am now moving on to Switzerland after an amazing five years at the BSN. I will definitely miss the BSN and my life in the Netherlands but I am excited for my next adventure in Basel.

Thank you, Rebecca, for your many contributions, you will be missed! Good luck in Switzerland and keep in touch!
Begin your international teaching career at the BSN too.
Currently, we have no vacancies, but stay signed up to BSN News & Jobs and we’ll let you know when that changes.
In the mean-time, for those of you about to go on a break; have a restful, restorative and relaxed (if that’s what you crave) holiday!
