BSN recently featured in a daily, national Dutch newspaper, the AD. The article highlighted the increasing number of Dutch children we enrol—291—and included interviews with Dutch parents and our very own Rachel Iles, Learning Technology Manager JSL and Kevin Sandeman, Deputy Headteacher SSL.
When Eva and Ajay Mangal, Dutch parents from Delft, were considering sending their daughter to BSN initially, they were impressed with the self-confidence of the two students who gave them a tour, and the facilities themselves. They believe that BSN helps develop talent and leadership qualities by encouraging students to make their own decisions and take responsibility for them. It is also an ideal place to build up an international network that will be beneficial for the students’ future careers.
Kevin Sandeman and Rachel Iles highlighted BSN’s holistic approach to education; which is evident in the amount and variety of after school activities on offer. Health and well-being of the children are prioritised. For example, each child participates in the ‘Daily K’; a kilometre of running or similar activity, based a British initiative, The Daily Mile. All children are required to learn Dutch as BSN considers it very important to have the ability to interact with the wider community. In short, it’s not only about the grades.
Perhaps the biggest adjustment Dutch children face when moving from a local school to the BSN, is wearing a school uniform, which in rest of The Netherlands simply isn’t done.
