The British School in The Netherlands - News & Jobs
Every year, we welcome a number of new staff from all over the world. Relocating to a completely new country can be challenging, which is why it is important to make new international staff feel welcomed, so that they can settle into their new life as soon as possible. As a school, the BSN recognises this – our International Leadership Academy run a tailor made induction programme throughout the school year, kicking off with the fantastic BSN Big Weekend!

It is not only new staff members we welcome to The Netherlands, however; it is also their partners, who have made the brave decision to move countries without any job security or a ready made friendship/support group of new colleagues. If that is your situation, it can be even more challenging to establish your life, and thrive, in a new country as you navigate the transition together. This is why this year, we organised a workshop especially for accompanying partners of new staff– ‘Living Your Best Life in The Netherlands’. Facilitated by Canadian career consultant Colleen Reichrath, the workshop, which took place last Saturday, focused specifically on helping participants to understand the transition they are in and equipping them with practical tools to navigate their life and career in The Netherlands. Meaningful conversations were had, goals were set, action plans were written and participants even received a free copy of the facilitator’s book, ‘A Career in Your Suitcase’ at the end of the workshop!

Some feedback from the participants:

“The coach made me feel so calm and optimistic about my future in The Netherlands!”

“It was great meeting others in the same position knowing I’m not alone in my current situation.”

“The workshop was really motivating & inspiring. Thank you so much!”
As it is World Mental Health Day today, it’s appropriate to highlight BSN’s provision of workshops this year on a variety of different topics relating to life, personal development and well-being, such as:
  • Women’s Health
  • Men’s Health
  • Sleep
  • Mental Health Awareness
  • Nutrition and Exercise
  • Dutch Wills and Inheritance Tax
…and many more!

These workshops are part of our suite of Life Planning and Well-being benefits, which also include initiatives such as free health checks, a dietitian service, (partially) subsidised gym memberships, a free childcare service on staff INSET days, a number of well-being activities and clubs (including yoga, Zumba, football, creative workshops, a BSN band and community choir), an Employee Assistance Programme, an onsite counsellor service, and more.
