As an Android user for many years now, the new iPhone 7 wasn’t of much interest to me. But as someone with an interest in technology and the anticipation of future trends, Apple events are always worth keeping an eye on. It wasn’t a very exciting presentation though, with no surprises or significant announcements made, except for the AirPods - Apple’s first foray into wireless earphones (besides for their acquisition of Beats 2 years ago) and the confirmation that going forward, iPhones won’t come with a headphone jack. A bold but obvious move for Apple.
At almost $200, the AirPods are feeling more like a burden rather than a feature to many people. And I get that. Traditionally iPhones (and iPods) always included a free pair of Apple wired earphones and there wasn’t really an additional investment required on top the expensive iPhone purchase. But as you’ll see in a few articles I’ve shared today, there’s a lot more behind the decision and it’s merely a preview of what’s to come.
