CAMPUS UPDATE: YOUTH QUAKE@HOME
Although the month of February usually brings Youth Quake to campus, this year, we’ve had the opportunity to bring Youth Quake content to 330 youth groups—over 3x our usual capacity for the weekend retreat!
We would be lying if we said we didn’t feel a little lost this month without this massive retreat that has marked our family day weekend for 59 years. All the usual markers that signal the onset of Youth Quake—painting supplies everywhere 🎨, themed decor going up in the Hildebrand and Edwards chapels 🎊, college freshmen vacuuming for the first time 😬—are strangely absent. But it helps that we can still offer discipleship resources to Christian leaders working diligently with young people during these times. This is what our mission to educate disciples, equip the Church, and engage the world is all about.
The past few months have involved a LOT of filming in order to get main sessions, youth and youth worker seminars, and worship sets out to our retreaters. We’d love to share some behind-the-scenes photos with you! Check them out on this post from YouthQuake’s Facebook page.

AN UPDATE FROM OUR COMMUNITY IN CARONPORT
Tragedy struck last week in Caronport as a fire destroyed one mobile home, damaging the two neighbouring homes as well. The firefighting efforts of the Caronport Volunteer Fire Department and Moose Jaw Fire Department were frustrated by the extreme cold, which froze up hoses, nozzles, and breathing apparatuses as they attempted to beat the blaze.
Within hours, though, members of the local church had set up GoFundMe campaigns, food hampers, and clothing drives in support of the families displaced by fire damage. Fundraising campaigns quickly met and surpassed their initial goals, and a Facebook group was set up to manage provisions for any remaining needs. Briercrest students were quick to get involved, setting up a fundraiser which will be matched by Student Government up to $1,000.
Amidst tragedy, it’s encouraging to see God’s people stepping up to be His hands and feet, sharing Christ’s love right here in Caronport.
Our College's Student Government Outreach Committee fundraising for the families affected by last week's fire Student Government has pledged to match donations up to $1,000.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: GENERATIONS OF BRIERCREST STUDENTS!

We’ve loved hearing from alumni across the world through our Alumni Update Form. With so many diverse alumni checking in, we’ve had to start grouping our alumni features by theme! If you want to see a particular theme featured, rally some alumni friends and have them submit their responses to our alumni update form with a theme they’d like to see featured in the future.
We’ve got some ideas we’d love to try, including alumni in coffee, multi-school alumni, alumni with stories of God’s faithfulness, and many more. So get in touch with us using the form!
For now, let’s meet some alumni who share Briercrest across the generations:
Marilyn Friesen (CHS ‘84, College '87, pictured above)
“We farm near Langham, SK, and are very involved in Langham Bible Church. Our daughter Shaina (College '18) married Joseph Ardell (College '15) in July 2018. They are working/studying in Vancouver. Our son Brenden (College '15) is living in Montreal and pursuing a career in opera.”
James B. (Jim) Houston (CHS '69, College '75)
“Carolyn and I live in Calgary, are retired from active pastoral ministry, and active in the local church. We have 3 sons, 3 wonderful daughters-in-law, and 10 amazing grandchildren, 4 of whom live on the Briercrest campus with their mom and dad (Dr. Joel Houston). I had a liver transplant on July 1, 2019 and God has demonstrated His steadfast love to me repeatedly over the course of this year-long journey. I praise His holy Name!”
Alumnus Jim Houston and his son, Dr. Joel Houston, who also attended Briercrest College. Bonus: Joel and returned last year as an Assistant Professor of Theology in the College and Seminary!

Sherri (Carter) Johnson (CHS ‘75)
“I am living in Edmonton, AB. My husband Barry (CHS '75) and I moved here in 2002 from Regina, SK for his work. In 2004, Barry passed away very unexpectedly. I retired in 2019 from Canadian Blood Services, where I had worked for over 22 years as an RN. I have a daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, and grandson living in Regina (grandson is currently attending Briercrest), and a son, daughter-in-law & 5-year-old grandson in Oshawa, ON. I am blessed to have both my parents still and to truly have an enjoyable life. It is exciting to see my grandson attending the school where Barry and I first met, but kind of disquieting to know he spent last year in the "oldest” dorm on campus—it was brand new my first year there as a grade 11 student. Where have the years gone? ;)“
Rob Hildebrand (CHS ‘88 and College '91)
Speaking of heritage, Dr. Rob Hildebrand and his wife Leslie are starting a new chapter in what we can only call a generational story. Their calling to start an affordable discipleship school for young adults has led them to sell their home and other possessions to purchase a castle in France to house a budding Christian study abroad program.
Rob is the son of David Hildebrand, who was a beloved Briercrest professor, and grandson of Henry Hildebrand, our founder. Clearly, a passion for Christian education and discipling young adults runs in the family.
You can read the Hildebrand’s story at the link below!
You can also follow Rob and Leslie on YouTube as they renovate the castle and begin to have students arrive. Presently, they have eight Canadian students enrolled in the program. They hope to someday have students from Briercrest attend.
