2021: What's the Vision? | Briercrest Connections - Issue #9

Briercrest Connections
Welcome to the January edition of Briercrest Connections! We were thrilled to welcome our students back to campus two weeks ago and we are excited to see what the Lord has in store for us this semester.
In this issue:
  • President Pawelke gives a State of the Academy address
  • Our students raise thousands of dollars to help fight human trafficking
  • Alumni from across Canada collaborate on a creative project

We're all smiles heading into the Winter semester.
We're all smiles heading into the Winter semester.
This week, President Pawelke delivered his annual State of the Academy address: a look into the challenges faced by the Church and by Christian higher education in our present cultural moment and a charge to re-focus on our call to make disciples in all circumstances.
It was a call to live out Matthew 28:18–20 right now and a look at how this really does happen here at Briercrest. We think you’d like it! You can watch the stream or read the highlights at the link below.
President's State of the Academy Address 2021
“Alleluia Alleluia, for the Lord God Almighty reigns!” We’ll call it a silver lining—although we were unable to host a Briercrest Christmas this year, we were able to form a virtual choir of students, staff, and alumni and worship together by singing "Agnus Dei/O Come, Let Us Adore Him.”
In the words of Carl Hinderager: “sweet.” Don’t miss this video (and the familiar faces)!
Agnus Dei (With O Come, Let Us Adore Him)
All December long, a group of 21 students participated in Dressember to raise awareness and funds for partners like International Justice Mission that are fighting human trafficking in the world.
More than 40 million people are in human trafficking around the world. 1 in 4 of them are children. Human trafficking in forced sexual exploitation, forced labour, and forced marriage generates about $150 billion a year worldwide.⠀
With an initial goal of raising $1,234, they persevered in their dresses, suits, and Crocs (!) all month. To date, they have raised $5,374.19!

Here are some ways to connect with Briercrest this month:
Take an online course with the Paul E. Magnus Centre for Leadership Studies
Our mission: to serve leaders with timely resources. If your 2021 goals involve growing in the influence God has given you, consider catching the Centre’s courses in Coaching Foundations or Theology and Technology.
Side note: If you are planning on taking a class and would be purchasing textbooks from Amazon, use this link to checkout. A  very small commission gets passed back to Briercrest when you use it and we are grateful for the support.
Pro Tip: Update your Amazon bookmark on your browser and it will always catch eligible items as you shop.
Coffee and a CB with President Michael Pawelke
