Welcome to Sunday’s Big Revolution. Fun fact: sometimes it takes me longer to compile these shorter weekend editions than it does the full weekday version. The realities of home life at weekends!

Big things you need to know today
  • The White House is downplaying reports it may investigate Google and Facebook. It seems a draft executive order seen by the press may not be ‘official’ and could have something to do with Yelp, which has been running an increasingly hostile public policy campaign against Google of late.
  • A bug in Bitcoin Core could have allowed hackers to ‘break’ bitcoin. It would have let them create more bitcoins than the currency’s hard cap. The limit on the number of bitcoins is a key feature, and this bug could have led to a lower price per bitcoin, not to mention the potential for many cryptocurrency enthusiasts to lose faith in the basic tenets of the field’s biggest name.
Big weekend reads
These Robots Run, Dance and Flip. But Are They a Business? These Robots Run, Dance and Flip. But Are They a Business?
Boston Dynamics is famous for its robot dogs, but as it gets ready to launch its first consumer version, who would actually want one? They’re certainly not autonomous, like some of the company’s videos have implied.
Amazon: Retailers Gonna Retail
Contrarian thinking on where Amazon is heading. “What if many of the recent changes reflect not a path to domination, but Amazon’s journey as a more traditional retailer?”
The Deliberate Awfulness of Social Media
Not just another ‘social media is bad’ piece. There are some interesting ideas in here about how climate change might affect the internet, for example.
One big tweet
Fire up the conspiracy theories that Apple’s AirPower wireless charging pad is nearly ready after all… or this is very sloppy.
