Big Revolution
Welcome to Wednesday’s members-only edition of the newsletter, coming to you from somewhere in rural Wales. Today there’s lots of news from Facebook’s developer conference, and plenty more besides.

Big things you need to know from f8
  • Facebook’s main app is losing its blue. Check your mobile app to see if it’s rolled out to you yet. It’s the same, but whiter. A more significant overhaul of the desktop website will come soon.
  • Facebook Dating is expanding to 14 new countries in Asia and South America. A launch in the USA is promised later this year. A new feature lets you tell Facebook your ‘secret crush.’ If they also name you as theirs, you’ll both be told. But will anyone want to tell Facebook their secrets anymore?
  • Instagram is testing improvements to the ‘health’ of its platform. These include hiding the like counter (now being tested in Canada), and various anti-bullying measures. These include a ‘nudge’ when it looks like you’re writing a mean comment.
