Hi friends, here is your weekly dose of “Simply Good Life", a newsletter that tries to make your day a little bit better and help you to grow personally and professionally. Enjoy!

Learn to Say No
Last week one of the newsletter readers asked me about my way of prioritizing. Her question was “How do you prioritize and say ‘no’ to projects - even when they are awesome?”
I have two ways of deciding if I should say yes or no to projects. One is the “Hell Yeah or No” technique by Derek Sivers. It’s only a yes if you think “Hell Yeah! I want this project”. If it’s not a “Hell Yeah” so it’s a no. This principle hugely helped me to decide. I travel less now, I say no to new projects. If it’s not a “Hell Yeah” so it’s a no.

Secondly, I start every year with the definition of the perfect end. I pause and reflect on the perfect outcome. I tell myself: “Imagine it’s January 1st, 2021. you look back at the year 2020 and you just smile. People around you praise you, it was simply a perfect year (personally and at work). Describe what happened.”.
By doing this I definitely see what is important, I definitely know the one thing I should focus on. This exercise is comparable to the idea from the book THE ONE THING by Gary Keller.
Search Engine That Plants Trees
I’ve heard about many alternatives to the huge ubiquitous Google but I never considered switching.
Last week my 18-year-old daughter convinced me to switch to Ecosia, the search engine that plants trees. She showed me a documentary that explained how powerful all the tree projects are that are supported by Ecosia.
In the last few days, I’ve used Ecosia for almost 150 searches that resulted in 3 actually planted trees. It feels good!

Early Morning Light is Medicine
Early morning light exposure is essential for optimal health. It regulates the level of melatonin -  the hormone responsible for the sleep-wake cycle - which helps to sleep better.
Recommendation: 30 minutes of 1,000 lux intensity light first thing in the morning.
If you don’t know what 1,000 lux means, use the Lux app (Android, iOS) to measure light intensity. Even on a cloudy day, the outside environment’s light has more than 1,000 lux.
A Book I've Enjoyed
Here are another two thought-provoking quotes from the book Awareness by Anthony De Mello.
When I’m listening to you, it’s infinitely more important for me to listen to me than to listen to you.
This means, whenever you listen to others, focus on what’s going on in you. Whenever you react positively ask yourself why, whenever you react in a negative way try to understand why. Listen more to you.
“Do you think you help people because you are in love with them? Well, I’ve got news for you. You are never in love with anyone. You’re only in love with your prejudiced and hopeful idea of that person. Take a minute to think about that: You are never in love with anyone, you’re in love with your prejudiced idea of that person.” ―
This one is simply great. So we fall in love with the idealized picture of a person not with the actual person. This means you not only can improve a relationship by working on you but also by working on the picture they have of you.
How do these quotes make you think?
Have a great day,
Adam
