What happened last month?

What happened last month?
By Austin Baker • Issue #8 • View online
The past month has been a b l u r. From traveling to weddings to work celebrations, I have been doing stuff none stop. This week I’m taking Monday and Tuesday off to just relax and feel like a human again.

One of the weirdest feelings is watching your friends get married and then reliving all of the stupid moments you have had with them. This summer, I got to be a part of some of my favorite friends weddings, and it was a blast!

The Kuhns
Two of my favorite friends from college got married earlier this summer and I happily got to be Alex’s best man. It has been so much fun to be a part of their journey together and I truly wish them both the best!

My relationship with these two go all the way back to high school. I have watched them grow over the years and now I’m so excited for them to continue to grow as a married couple!
Just wanted to share one of the awesome couples I have gotten the chance to work with; Nolan and Georganna hired me to capture their wedding day but I wasn’t aware of the fun we would have while doing it! My favorite part of the day was their vows which is why it was the main element of the video. Special thanks to Katie who helped me throughout the process!

As we get closer to the ending of 2021, I have come to the realization that I probably won’t be taking any weddings in 2022. I have realized that I am helping Katie with enough of her weddings that I don’t necessarily need to take on any of my own. To be honest, I love shooting wedding days, but the editing portion of it isn’t my favorite. Of course I am super excited about the remaining clients I have this year!
At Touchstone’s yearly celebration (ie Summit), I ended up winning three different awards from my contributions last year. It honestly was so surprising and truly honoring! The three awards I won are:
Top Performer Award
Businesses Don’t Grow, People Do Award
“I Am” Touchstone Award
Okay, I hate to keep promoting Marvel shows and movies….but they have honestly been super good. Upon hearing about Shang-Chi, I assumed it would be a B-tier Marvel movie that could be skipped; boy am I happy I was wrong.
This movie isn’t just a cool case study into Chinese culture, it also gives us some of the most deep characters we have seen in a Marvel movie. Simu Liu as Shaun gives us a character who just wants to out run his past. The whole film revolves around Shaun either accepting the past or turning his back on it forever. My favorite part has to be the main villain because his motives are so pure. I won’t go too much into detail to avoid any spoilers, but the fact that I was rooting for the villain is a testament to his character development.
I would recommend this film to truly anyone who likes action adventure. This is an awesome action movie with a very deep story that sets it apart from any other Marvel film.
I know I have been MIA for a while, but a lot has been happening in my life. I’ll have more to talk about soon so make sure to subscribe to the newsletter so you don’t miss a thing!
