My 2022 Goals

My 2022 Goals
By Austin Baker • Issue #11 • View online
Growing up sucks. I blinked and we are in 2022. Life doesn’t feel like it should move this fast…but I guess it does! Let’s talk about this year and what I want to accomplish in the 327 days left!

Balancing the focus
Traditionally, I am a much more driven person when it comes to having freelance and creating my own videos. This year, I am actually taking time to focus on my personal goals. I love having career goals, and I still will, but actually giving myself the bandwidth to focus on just personal Austin issues is a refreshing change. Crafting me into the man I want to be is my #1 goal of 2022, and that all starts with my head.

Filling my head with information
My first goal of 2022 is to read more than I did last year. Once I realized that reading is an amazing stress relief for me, I started finding books that were interesting to me. This year is just an extension of 2021. I plan on reading at least 20 books in 2022 and I’m already done with 3. The books I’m reading span from fantasy to non-fiction to motivational. I love reading stories that offer a different perspective from how I grew up and gives me insight into how people think.

Health & Money
Some goals that Katie and I share are to work out, eat better, and spend less. We are making a much larger effort at all of this. Each week, we are trying to work out together at least 3 times. We are both trying to pack more for lunches so that we aren’t tempted to eat in our cafe’s or go out for lunch. And then we started the Dave Ramsey class at church to help us build a budget and stick to it. So far, it’s going pretty well, but there definitely will be challenges along the way.

My Career
Still new at my job, I am still figuring out the structure of the company and how my life will fit into it. So far, the opportunities in the company to prove myself just keep showing up and allowing me to make amazing videos. Originally, I didn’t know what my videos at Cintas would be about, but now I realize they all revolve around corporate culture and communication. Talking about the culture at Cintas has lead me to fall in love with the drive that each and every employee has towards the company. Cintas’ motto is “Positive Discontent” which means that employees are never settled and they are always working towards the next goal. In my personal journey, this has lead me to have amazing conversations with my mentor and executive level members about my career and how to navigate the future. I’m excited about the growth in my current role, but also my growth in the company as a whole. I know I am learning a lot about me as a creator, an employee, and a leader.

My relationship
This is a first for me; I have never made goals about my relationship with Katie ever before. This year is pretty simple: have one creative date night every month. We are challenging ourselves to do something fun and spontaneous each and every month. I love this because I love being random, but this will help our relationship and help us grow closer as a couple. Katie brings out the best version of myself so I’m really excited for the future!
Thanks for reading!
I love writing these, but tend to run out of things to write about. My good friend Kiran just started a monthly recap, so that’s probably what I will turn these into. If I can write about my month and what went on, I feel like it will be very cool to look back upon. Thanks again for reading and I would love to know your goals for 2022! Just send them to me and I’ll try to check in at the end of the year to see how you did!
