China + global technology, business, and innovation trends, 8 items at a time.

Rising China tech is setting new records domestically and having unprecedented impact abroad:
–According to the Hurun Report via Shanghaiist, Greater China added 210 new billionaires last year and Beijing is the billionaire capital of the world.
–Part of why I’m so bullish on China tech is how the government supports and recognizes entrepreneurs. Comparisons are only so useful… but.
–Also, Chinese spending on innovation and technology is growing twice as fast as in the U.S., according to the South China Morning Post
–Great topic from Frank Hersey at TechNode: how tech is powering the Belt and Road and other initiatives you wouldn’t think of as tech-first.
–Incredible to see Chinese tech companies and investors becoming major players and kingmakers in Latin America tech. I shared this piece about Chinese VC picking winners in India in a previous issue.
–It’s still in development, but how cool would this be: Chinese-designed hypersonic aircraft could fly from Beijing to NYC in two hours
–Lenovo’s founder went through WeChat withdrawal on a recent visit to the U.S. Completely understandable… I think I’ll have the same thing.
–This is a fine article, but I include it here mainly because it demonstrates the way Chinese innovation has become the new conventional wisdom
What’s going on in your industry? Anyone you’re looking to connect with to grow your business?

PS - thinking of getting a small executive dinner together in Beijing next week - if you’d be interested to join, hit reply and let me know.
