So, here we are again. The ultra rare, very random, super inconsistent and never planned email sharing things I love. I’m fully aware that there is really no consistency in this newsletter thing, and not in Another Something either, but lately I found out that it just doesn’t matter (don’t believe social media or advertising ‘experts’ on this topic). We live in a time of information overload so you probably have - like me - multiple dozen tabs open in safari of things you should check, archived hundreds of pictures on instagram to see later, a list of to reads in apps like Instapaper or Medium, too many unplayed podcasts, half finished books in iBooks and multiple newsletter (like the real paper thing, remember?) subscriptions although you never read a thing… There’s just too much, and especially too much mediocrity (see the Rafael Sarandeses life lesson nr 9 in the Small Notions section below).
So in this newsletter of mine, I’ll try to share only things I believe you’ll find as interesting and inspiring as I do. There is no commercial agenda, no bigger plan, just the love for beautifully made stories, products and ideas. Enjoy!

On Sameness
Sameness is, and will be, a big part of what we think, do and share around Another.so and here in the newsletter too. I truly believe that sameness is killing us. We live in a time where originality is declining in a rapid tempo. For Chris and myself Another Something became the perfect platform to find this common ground on originality. A place where we no longer just share the nice things we see around us, but really try to link those initiatives, brands and people together that strive for pure creativity, no matter what the business side is saying.

💯 Rafael Sarandeses life lessons are inspring and challenging: Perfection is the enemy of good.
🍏 This interview with Jony Ive on Apple’s new HQ and the disappearing iPhone.
🛫 And always love what Away is doing, especially on the old fashioned print side of business.
🌳 And remember the term shinrin-yoku (‘forest bathing’). It describe the practice of getting into the woods for body and mind renewal, to counter lifestyle-related health issues.
🔁 That fifth album by Damon McMahon aka Amen Dunes called Freedom is on repeat. A very well deserved 8.6 on Pitchfork!

📡 Everyone says the blockchain, the technology underpinning cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, is going to change EVERYTHING. And yet, after years of tireless effort and billions of dollars invested…
🤳 Oh, and China (and probably the west too) can identify any citizen within seconds.
📵 This list could go on for pages but I’m sure you don’t like it. So on a positive note, Tristan Harris is doing great things trying to nail the problem, or at least some.
🤲 Ezra Klein did an interesting interview with Johann Hari on depression and anxiety. Hari is stating they are more than just chemical imbalances in the brain. They are the result of our social environments, our relationships, our political contexts — our lives, in short.

The End 🔚
So far for now. And don’t wait for the next newsletter, it’ll come one day… I promise.
But if you can’t wait, we’re working on something to give our close readers of Another Something (you, if you managed to finish this newsletter all the way to the bottom) more voice and a role in the conversations we create. It will be a Slack channel where we share more things, insights, ideas and inspirations and ask you to do too. If you’re interested, reply on this newsletter and we’ll put you on the waiting list.

PS. I think you should start using Are.na (if you’re not already). The ’intention behind Are.na is to build a platform for creative thinking and research that is open to everyone.
It’s a distraction-free space where you can collect anything, organize your thoughts, and develop ideas over time. It’s also a community where curiosity and collaboration are more important than algorithms and likes.’
You can also become an investor in Are.na (since they don’t sell your data). Read more on that here >
I’m sure you will love it! Especially this channel ;)
