Welcome to Angel Magazine #7 and happy holidays! I hope you are enjoying the most wonderful time of the year, but if not, that’s okay too. The pressure of the busy holidays can be overwhelming, I guess it is important to pause and realise that this time can also be an opportunity for calm and introspection. What’s on my mind? This duality of the holidays. Making last minute plans while recovering from a cold, wrapping presents and wishing for dreams to come true, looking forward to the new and remembering the old:

Projects: Pod Sessions with Stefan Sagmeister
A couple of months ago, I did an interview with one of my favourite designers ever, Stefan Sagmeister of Sagmeister & Walsh. Interior design company De Vorm hired me to do a series of interviews during Dutch Design Week for their POD Sessions
“In this edition of the POD sessions we proudly present our fine conversation with Stefan Sagmeister, one of the most inspiring graphic designers of his time.
We discuss the influence of technology and the human-centric approach in his work. Stefan: "I don’t know a single person who prefers the automated machine over the real person. So why do we so often pretend that what we make is made by a machine? It makes no sense.”
“As a young designer I wanted to do new things all the time but that proved impossible to do. Now, the older I get, the less the new is important to me.”

Photography: Robin de Puy
I am currently working on a super cool project with the city of Amsterdam (more soon in January!) As part of this, me and the communications team of Amsterdam were on a photoshoot with Dutch photographer Robin de Puy. I love her work, especially the motorcycle series and her stories behind her photos. Looking at her photos make feel like being on the edge of something big and beautiful. Read her two day romance and look at the photo, and see if you don’t fall in love. Ahhh :)
Coinciding with the Dutch EU Presidency in 2016, she’s taking photos for a 450 metre-long exhibit for the Europe by People project, where she will showcase the unique diversity of Amsterdam’s population. See it soon at the Marineterrein at the beginning of January 2016, and try to find me in the photos! ;)

Ballet: The biggest Swan Lake ever
I am so excited to watch the biggest Swan Lake ever today at the RAI Theatre! The unique collaboration of the Shanghai Ballet and England’s top choreographer Derek Deane is a must-see; the grand ballet will be performed by 48 swans onstage (instead of the usual 16).
It’s my first time to see this legendary ballet as an adult (seeing it as a child does not count, I barely remember anything!) What makes it even more special for me is that I’ve been taking ballet lessons recently. Aside from that, I’ve been listening (and awkwardly dancing) to Swan Lake while working, cleaning the house, on the train… basically all the time. It’s just so beautiful. I can’t wait to sigh, and dream, and be swept into Swan Lake’s stunning world.
Until 31 Dec 2015
Agenda
Opening: BOLIA in Amsterdam
I was invited to the Bolia store opening in Amsterdam’s Utrechtsestraat last week. The “New Scandinavian Design” interior and lifestyle store from Copenhagen is a dreamworld for design lovers. Me and my friend Kim (you can see us on the right side of the photo :) went a little crazy over the prettiest couches, tables, lighting and (my favourite) design accessories. I went home with an orange mirror, a half unicorn-half seal porcelain figure and a dark purple candleholder. I LOVE IT and I’m coming back soon for more! Welcome to Amsterdam, Bolia! #bolialovesamsterdam

Film: Mistress America
“They were matches to her bonfire. She was the last cowboy, all romance and failure. The world was changing, and her kind didn’t have anywhere to go. Being a beacon of hope for lesser people is a lonely business.”
Mistress America is definitely one of my favourite movies of 2015. Beautifully written, with touching dialogue and a superb soundtrack. I love the moments when Orchestral Manoeuvres in The Dark’s Souvenir was playing in the background, like sprinkling magic dust to a beautiful painting, and making it come to life.

Music: Phoenix's Alone on Christmas Day
Phoenix made a cameo in Netflix’s A Very Murray Christmas as French waiters in a hotel, and performed a Christmas song during one of the scenes. Oh, I love them forever! :) The movie was quite nice too, it gave me that “Sofia Coppola feeling”, enclosed in a sort of melancholy capsule. Especially since the film is set in a hotel (with a lonely Bill Murray), similar to Lost in Translation.
Listen to the song here:

You go!
(When friends know you well, they get you an adorable cross-stitched Mean Girls quote as a present.)
Thank you, my dear readers, for being part of my 2015. Love you!
Here’s to new friends and old friends, to loving boyfriends, mentors and parents, to new opportunities and many-sided memories, to seizing the day, to courage, and to kindness.
Here’s to the new year, here’s to this year. Here’s to the future, and every golden moment of the past. To a heart that will continually search for the new, and remember what gives joy, love and hope. To bravery and to dancing, to sparkling inspiration, to not giving up, to our most beloved dreams. Grab them, savour them, you go Glen Coco!!!
With love,
Angel xxx
