Welcome to the first issue of Angel Magazine. A selection of the things that went down last week in Amsterdam, in my thoughts, and on my browser. What’s on my mind? The changing of the seasons, Munch and melancholy, heart-stopping ballet, and adorable cats with turtle butlers…

Munch and Van Gogh: Two much melancholy
I went to the press preview of the most awaited exhibition of the year, Munch : Van Gogh, at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. What can I say… These are two of my most favourite artists in one exhibition. “Art that goes straight to the heart,” as curator Maite van Dijk said in her opening speech. My heart had a hard time handling it. I was overwhelmed with emotions– with every violent brush stroke, with every burning sky. Seeing Munch again brought a wave of melancholy in me, remembering the first time I saw his emotionally-charged works one winter evening in Oslo. And right beside Van Gogh! Whose letters, mind and emotions I adore and feel for so strongly. Oh, the depths of the human condition.
No more talk. Just go and see- or feel- it for yourself.
On view at the Van Gogh Museum from 25 September 2015 to 17 January 2016.
“During his short life, Van Gogh did not allow his flame to go out. Fire and embers were his brushes. I have thought, and wished, that I would not let my flame go out, and with a burning brush, paint until the end.”

De Vorm Pod Sessions: Angel interviews the world's best designers
De Vorm - Pod Sessions
We’ve been working on this for a long time! I worked with De Vorm, a Dutch furniture company, in producing and creating an interview series with the speakers of What Design Can Do 2015. If you are wondering who Stefan Sagmeister, Ole Scheeren, Alex Atala and Sam Bompas are talking to opposite their Pod chairs… well, it’s me. :)
Check out the videos and see what’s going on in the minds of today’s most prolific designers. Hear their thoughts on creativity, work and workspace environments.

EF: Tomorrow, my friend...
Last week, I saw EF again after seven years. This time, in my new home Amsterdam. I’ve loved this Swedish post-rock band since the early 2000s, they’re actually one of the first bands that shaped my deep love for Sweden. I remember traveling six hours in a German train in 2008, from Goettingen to Muenster to see them for the first time. I remember feeling a mix of intense emotions upon hearing them live, a wall of sound that translated to a feeling of endless possibilities. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, my heart said. I was at the beginning of my new life in Europe after all; the world was opening up in front of me, my dream was finally coming true. Their music was the soundtrack to that moment, and looking back now… Has it really been seven years? Incredible how time passes by, and how my life has changed (and not changed) since then. But I hope I never forget that sense of wonder and I continue to dream big dreams, and feel big feelings.

Unseen Photo Fair: Neon parrots
I went to the Unseen Photo Fair & Festival earlier this week, and fell in love with this photograph by Yoshinori Mizutani from his parrot series. It’s amazing!
