Don’t know about you, but I’ve been getting out and about and it feels so good. I went to a fabulous little French bistro in Harlem, Maison Harlem, over the weekend for brunch. If felt so good to be dining in a quaint atmosphere. I loved the smell of French butter with the sounds of the language of love in the air.
I had a Kir Maison which was their version of a Kir Royale. It’s an old school cocktail with a touch of elegance. Named after Felix Kir, a Catholic priest and decorated member of the French resistance, the first Kir was made with white Burgundy + Lejay Cassis. Its festive cousin is the Kir Royale, Cassis liqueur plus Champagne ( however you could go with Crémant ).
It’s the perfect cocktail to take you out of spring and into summer. Great for sipping on the porch, stoop, or planted on the couch while you binge some Netflix.
Kir Royale
  • ½ ounce Crème de Cassis
  • Champagne (or Crémant ), to top
  • Garnish: lemon twist

Did you know that April is National Garlic Month. Even though the month is just about over, garlic is a culinary delight to celebrate at all times. It adds such pop to food. I know not everybody digs garlic, but I think it’s a gift of the goddess.
Garlic has not only been used for cooking. It’s great for healing the common cold and lowering blood pressure. BOOM!
There is an art to roasting garlic the right way. Sure you can just pop it in the oven for a bit, but roast your garlic with love. As in.. add some olive oil, salt, and pepper. That will take it to a whole other level. It’s quick easy and delish.

Nothing better than pasta and a glass of red wine. Whip up a batch of Baked Pasta alla Norma for a yummy Italian meal. The dish is filled with eggplant, cheese, and garlic. It’s a threesome that can’t be denied. I’d pair with a glass of Italian red such as the Frescobaldii Nipozzano Chianti Riserva or the Carparzo Rosso di Montalcino.

One of the best comfort foods is a big bowl of pasta. Next time you are settling in for a chill homemade dinner, go for the Garlic Lover’s Spaghetti. It’s quick and easy to make. The only thing left will be to pair with a nice white wine such as Zenato Lugana San Benedetto or a glass of Mionetto Processo.

I love having a touch of garlic on my filet mignon. It has a way of bringing out the flavor of the meat. The only thing that I might would say is use French butter to make the steak versus olive oil. It adds a certain oh la la!
