Greetings from sunny (and hot) Sonoma! It’s been a while since my last newsletter, so we have a lot to catch up on. This issue serves as a business update, provides a preview of my latest research, highlights from current projects and includes a short list of recommended reads. Communities of PurposeThink about what an online community might look like if 1) the host organization were actively expressing its purpose through community and 2) the community activities were focused on helping members discover, refine and actualize their purpose as well. This would be an amazing leap forward in community engagement and positive outcomes.
In November of 2015, I was honored to be chosen as part of the inaugural cohort in the Rand Fellows program with the Life Reimagined Institute. The goal of my Fellows cohort is to create community-based programs that help people discover, refine and express their purpose and we are actively researching and developing a community strategy model based on purpose. The first preview of our work is in a post I shared this week - “Purpose Will Power Future Online Communities”. I’d love it if you would give it a read and send over any questions or feedback.Network Design + Business Updates
In addition to my work with Life Reimagined
, projects at Structure3C continue to become more interesting. I’m working with Intuit
on a fundamentally new type of community for small businesses. I’ve developed a new “Network Design Sprint” workshop that incorporates the Design Sprint methodology with Network Effect Platform design to create new “network product” prototypes rapidly - I recently ran one for EdTech startup TargetX
in their Oakland HQ. In early June I will be in Switzerland to research a project for the Swiss Post
(and also get in some vacation time). Most of my business comes from referrals, so if I can be of service to you or someone you know, please don’t hesitate to reach out
