Hey friends,
When there’s something you really want to set time aside for, yet it just seems so challenging to actually get to, how do you resolve the issue?
I have been working on a few projects and the one that sometimes is challenging to make time for is working on a book I have been writing. However, each time I experience a situation like this, I am reminded of an approach (I think) Henry David Thoreau had when he also had trouble writing when he would go to his cabin. Each time he would go to write, he would get into the habit of doing anything but sitting down to write - taking the dog out, eating, etc. Realizing the folly of his approach, he decided on his next trip to the cabin that everything he did in the cabin was writing. Essentially, he expanded what writing meant to him; he focused on the whole process of writing rather than just physically putting pen on paper.
The next time he went to the cabin, his attention - his mindset - was on how everything he is doing is writing rather than on how he was not writing. Since his focus was on what he is doing and how he is in the writing process even when not putting pen on paper, he would naturally sit down and write. He did not have to schedule in time to write or do anything to make him write. He changed how he was viewing his time at the cabin that the writing came with the expanded approach.
Whenever I feel like I am not writing, this lesson reminds me to affirm that I am actually in the process because there’s more to it than just sitting down and writing. This reminder settles down the pressure to write that it then happens on its own.
So while I expand how I approach writing my book, my question to you is: What is something in your life you can expand your approach with?
Have a great weekend!
