AI Researcher & Entrepreneur

17 years old, Canadian, and striving to develop the future of technology.
With a passion for Artificial Intelligence and entrepreneurship, I am working to create solutions for some of Canada’s top hospitals such as:
  • developing artificially intelligent diagnostic and drug discovery systems,
  • a new method to track and assist patients and their caregivers and,
  • a remote system to collect metrics from stay-at-home patients.
Meanwhile, at the University of Waterloo, I am developing a new image search technique to assist pathologists in cancer diagnosis as well as a new Artificial Neural Network that aims to be a more realistic abstraction of the human brain–furthering the community’s efforts in reaching human-level artificial intelligence (published paper out now).
My goal? To spark the next wave of human innovation and help humanity along the road to a new evolutionary step.

Speaking in Berlin, Prague, and Frankfurt
This September, I traveled to Germany and the Czech Republic to give 3 different talks at 3 different conferences in 3 different cities… in 1 week!
In Berlin, I spoke at IFA, Europe’s largest consumer electronics showcase with over 250 000 attendees. Check out the video of my talk here!
In Frankfurt, I spoke at me Convention, a conference bringing together thousands of curious, critical, and engaged minds who want to create the future. The conference is an annual collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and SXSW as part of the International Motor Show (the world’s largest motor show)!
In Prague, I spoke at Future Port Prague, the largest event on exponential technologies & trends in the Czech Republic!
Hats off to everyone at IFA, me Convention, and Future Port Prague for their amazing work!

Interviewed in Berlin - Into Tomorrow
While speaking at IFA in Berlin, I had a wonderful chat with the host of Into Tomorrow, Dave Graveline, who has been covering consumer tech since 1994. We had a great discussion about my AI research, human-level AI, and how we can ensure a positive future for humanity alongside intelligent technology.

Creating Brain-like Neural Networks - Paper Publication
In recent years, artificial neural networks have achieved tremendous success for many vision-based tasks. However, this success remains within the paradigm of weak AI, where networks are specialized for just one given task. The path toward strong AI, or Artificial General Intelligence, remains obscure.
One factor, however, is clear: the linear structure of current networks is not a realistic abstraction of the human brain. For the past year, I have been working with Prof. Hamid Tizhoosh at the University of Waterloo to create a new type of neural network that behaves more like the human brain. Our research is published in the paper: Subtractive Perceptrons for Learning Images: A Preliminary Report.
We propose the subtractive Perceptron, a graph-based neural network in which each neuron is connected to every other neuron in the network. This connection structure enables the network to learn specific tasks with a more compact topology. The network achieves excellent results compared to benchmark networks that rely on more complex topologies.
Upcoming:

  • (November 4-6) Speaking at the CASCON x Evoke Conference in Toronto which brings together over 1500 developers to discuss AI, Blockchain, Extended Reality, Quantum Computing, and more: https://www-01.ibm.com/ibm/cas/cascon/
