In Wyoming and Colorado, the BLM may advance a fraction of the lands proposed by oil speculators, according to federal documents released in recent days. In Colorado, BLM is considering deferral of more than 136,000 acres proposed for the upcoming sale, 96 percent of the lands proposed in expressions of interest from drillers and planned for sale earlier this year due to big game habitat or sage grouse habitat overlap, as well as ongoing tribal consultations. In Wyoming, approximately 68 percent of the lands proposed for sale, roughly 380,000 acres, is proposed for deferral because they were in protected habitat for the greater sage grouse.
