Generative Art Drop #3

Three days and 3 issues in the books! Starting a daily newsletter is all about establishing a streak 🔥 and get into the habit of writing.
I used to create generative art using purely javascript and HTML <svg> or <canvas> elements. You learn a lot building things from scratch. But I’ve started to dabble with p5.js. The more I get into it, the more I’m realizing that it makes relatively challenging tasks trivial. I’ll be sure to share code and experiments as I learn.

This piece features wonderful colors and textures in a variable sized grid. I really like how each square feels like a swatch of fabric woven into its neighbors. The randomized circle patterns overlaid into about half of the squares adds a nice effect. This design adds a lot of added visual interest to an otherwise flat pixel grid.

ASCII art is a visually interesting abstraction that has a very different vibe compared to pixel art. It can feel a little random and takes more mental energy to make sense of the character jumble. This particular piece features the PETSCII character set designed back in 1963.
You really have to see the animation to experience this piece. There are portals opening up and spitting out strings of characters that get swallowed up by neighboring portals. The chaos of networking is fascinating.

Interesting grid of symmetrical polygons warping back and forth between two states. I like the retro colors. Grids are always captivating. Nice piece. Very nice considering you can collect for .1ꜩ!
