In the South West, planning has been secured for more than 1,500 homes to be built as part of Swindon’s huge expansion to the east. The £400m Great Stall East development, which includes two new schools, will act as a gateway development to the New Eastern Villages development plan for the town.
In London, Mace has been chosen to deliver its £140m 33 Charterhouse Street office scheme next to Crossrail’s Farringdon Station. In a major boost for the capital’s office construction market, British Land has unveiled designs for the next major office scheme at its Broadgate Towers development.  Pre-construction work has started on a £18.5m contract from Steyn Group for a mixed-use apartment block in north London near its headquarters. An engagement event for one of Boris Johnson’s planned six hospital projects, Barts Health NHS Trust is calling up contractors to share thoughts on plans for the £700m Whipps Cross Redevelopment in North East London.
In infrastructure, Atkins and Gleeds have been awarded lots on a framework designed to keep a grip on HS2’s programme and costs. Atkins was handed the first lot, worth £125.5m, which will see the firm carry out programme controls for up to the next eight years. Meanwhile, Gleeds has been given the £104.5m commercial management lot.
