Welcome to this week’s Pegasus Report. I hope everyone is well and adjusting to our temporary way of life.
We all certainly know what the word furlough means now and the industry is certainly making use of it, with a number of the UK’s largest contractors furloughing over 4,000 staff in total in the space of 24 hours last week.
In the wake of the turmoil currently been caused to the UK & Global construction industry, I have started putting together a daily podcast briefing reviewing the days industry developments, you can find the podcasts here.

Construction leaders have written to the Prime Minister demanding urgent action to protect the future of the industry. The Construction Leadership Council is warning that without further support nearly half of all companies in the sector face potential failure in the next three months.
In the North West, planning has now been put forward to build a “best in class” £350m, 23,500-capacity arena close to Manchester City’s Ethiad Stadium.
In the West Midlands, Build to rent specialist Moda Living have submitted £258m plans to transform Great Charles Street in Birmingham into a high-rise residential-led neighbourhood. In Frankley, the Department for Education has selected Interserve to design and build the new £4.1m Merritts Brook Primary School.
In the North East, Planning permission has been granted for a new North East skiing facility worth £30m. The indoor ski facility, will be built at Middlehaven Dock on a seven-acre brownfield site next to the Grade II listed clock tower, Temenos and Middlesbrough College.
In Yorkshire, more details are emerging of a fifth temporary hospital to be set up. It has been reported that Harrogate Convention Centre is going to be transformed into an NHS Nightingale Hospital with around 800 beds, the first patients will be admitted at the beginning of April. The department of health has revealed plans to build the NHS “Nightingale” wards in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff, Glasgow and Belfast. Interserve, Bam and Vinci are among the firms building a series of emergency hospitals across the UK to care for covid-19 patients. In Leeds, a ‘next generation’ service station has opened, the new £64m Leeds Skelton Lake service station has opened at junction 45 of the M1.
In London, housing association consortium, Connected Partnerships, has named the line-up of firms it will use to deliver a £300m programme of refurbishment and new build over the next four years. Newcomers to the framework include: Ardmore, Mulalley, Midgard, Bouygues and Kier. Specialist infrastructure contractor blu-3 has been awarded a utilities package for the upcoming Park Modern super-prime residential development in London. The project forms part of an extensive £450m development of the Park Modern area of Hyde Park.
