PC Gaming Weekly
It feels like the game industry finally woke up from the holidays this week. And the dam burst. We saw layoffs, studio expansions, and game announcements from important dev houses. And we got a look at our first big game of 2020 – Doom Eternal.
But I do have a question: What’s going to happen with Cold Iron Studios’ in-development Alien game for PC and consoles? Wednesday, publisher Scopely bought FoxNext Games from Disney, and it said it planned to sell Cold Iron (which was part of the acquisition). Now, Alien can be an attractive game property, but even 2014’s excellent Alien: Isolation didn’t sell like hot cakes. And as a developer noted to me on Twitter, any sale could make the brand’s license rights even more complicated.
I hope whatever publisher scoops up Cold Iron will have a plan for this Alien game. And I hope it’ll result in a cool release in 2022 or 2023 … and that it doesn’t die like a foolish space marine going up against an angry xenomorph.
