I had a dream…
It involved Liverpool winning our 7th European Cup, at the stadium where we won our 5th European Cup, possibly against the team we beat in the semi finals en-route to that 5th European Cup, which ironically was the last time the Champions league quarter finals didn’t feature either Leo Messi or Christy Ronaldo…
BUT… to do that we had to beat a wiley Real Madrid team with plenty of experience and cunning in defending their lead. And as proved the case, it wasn’t to be. The reality though is that this current iteration of Liverpool are not good enough to take the big one this season. However, the race for the top 4 has continued to be kind to Liverpool, with a lot of rivals dropping points again. This gives the Reds a chance to muscle into the Top 4, but to do this, they face a very tricky game at Elland Road against Marcelo Bielsas Leeds side. The incentive is there, beat Leeds and it piles pressure on the rest. But Leeds are going to put us under pressure from the start, with pressing and pace from the outset. Hopefully we can come out on top of this tricky fixture and give ourselves a bit of momentum for the rest of the season. We will need our players to be on it from the start and a good performance from our forwards will be essential. We need to treat every game now as a cup final and play with intensity to get ourselves back in the mix.
But what we need and what we get are hopefully not two different things…
