Bear Mountain, NY (W2/GC-077) | KB1HQS
Bear Mountain, NY (W2/GC-077) is a summit located on the Hudson River right above New York City. I needed an activation for NY to take it off my list of activating a SOTA summit in every US State. Bear Mountain is an easy 1 point drive up summit, however parking is limited and the top can be crowded. The AT also runs through the top of summit adding hikers to the mix. Also located here is a cool looking tower that overlooks the river.

Mt Greylock, MA (W1/MB-001) | KB1HQS
Mount Greylock, MA (W1/MB-001) is a summit located in the northwest corner of Massa and is a well known landmark in the area. I had been trying to complete a summit in MA for several years, and Mt Greylock seemed like a good one to activate. Due to the drive up road and general popularity, I knew it would be busy on a nice October weekend day.

Mt Washington, NH (W1/HA-001) | KB1HQS
Mt Washington, NH (W1/HA-001) is one of my favorite summits on the east coast. Washington is known for having terrible weather including the highest wind speed ever recorded (231 MPH in 1934). The summit is always busy with hikers and tourists however there is plenty of space to set up an antenna and get on the air.

$30 DIY 60A Amateur Radio Power Supply | KB1HQS
Operating from home with a QRO amateur (100W) radio such as an ICOM, Yaesu, or Elecraft requires a high amperage power supply. Save money and use a HP (Model: HSTNS-PL18) power supply which will give you around 60 amps @ 12VDC. This can be done for as little as $15 and a little soldering.
