Thoughts on turning 30 🎂

Thoughts on turning 30 🎂
By Jamie Lim Yin Yin • Issue #12 • View online
Hi friends!
Well, I’m officially 30! Hopefully back a little wiser, not wider 🙊 It’s just been 4 days since my birthday passed - and I feel no different than I did the week before.
I had an amazing time celebrating it over 4 days with multiple surprises - but I swear, age is catching up with me because I was quite tired by the end of it. #firstworldproblems #oldageproblems Was lucky enough to spend time with family, my bestie, and a whole bunch of close friends. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the time :)

2 weeks ago, when we were having dinner gathering at my good friend Cheryl’s place, one of my younger friends posed a question to us: ‘Seriously, how does it feel to turn 30? Is it scary?
I thought for a moment and replied: ‘In all honesty, 30 is really just a number to me. I’m very sure I won’t feel any different than I am feeling right now! I’m actually really excited! To me, turning 30 is the start of true adulthood.’
Personally, I’m in better place than I was 10 years ago, when I was turning 20. Back then, I was in the midst of university, smoking, eating and drinking my life away. I wasn’t interested in what I was studying, and just wanted to finish up the week so I could continue to party over the weekend. I spent SO much money on alcohol, excess clothes and the latest electronic gadgets without a second thought.
Now, I’m more sensible and am incredibly intentional with everything I do. I’m financially able, holding a steady job in an awesome company. I’m in a much healthier and fitter state, stronger physically, mentally and emotionally. I know what I want in life - and am already taking steps towards attaining my personal and professional goals, so that I can eventually attain financial freedom, and enjoy life to the fullest. I have a bunch of friends, an incredible best friend, and family whom I love and treasure. People who I know have my back and will support me through all my endeavours. Really, that’s all I need to be truly happy.
With all these experiences behind my belt, I’m much better equipped to take on life, so I’m definitely ready to take whatever life throws at me. BRING IT ON, LIFE!
Till next week!
Jamie

Sorry folks! No amazon links provided to this beauty, because you can’t purchase this anywhere in the world! In addition to the multiple birthday surprises organized and planned - my bestie hand painted these shoes! Check out the Adidas words - it’s rainbow coloured! Seriously so touched by the amount of effort and thought that went into this :) Thanks Wanyi <3
Youtube Video - The 5 hour Rule by Thomas Frank
The 5 Hour Rule
The 5 Hour Rule
I’ve been following Thomas Frank on YouTube for a long time - and he’s also one of the most well known productivity gurus on the platform! Chanced upon this video he made about the 5 hour rule, and thought it made plenty of sense:
The author Michael D. Simmons came up with this rule after observing that Ben Franklin dedicated 1 hour/day on his daily schedule to reading and generally expanding his knowledge. He also noticed a similar patterns in figures like Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett.
His conclusion is that the constant to all these people’s success is their commitment to continually learning, improving their skills and their general knowledge across the entirety of their careers and by doing so, they are always opening themselves up to new opportunities, never resting on their laurels!
Movie released in 2018, but can't stop rewatching it!
Movie released in 2018, but can't stop rewatching it!
One of my favourite books and movies hands down. I watched the movie for the 3rd time yesterday, and it still blew my mind! Written by Ernest Cline, and directed by Steven Spielberg - we follow the journey of Wade Watts / Parzival as he tries to uncover the easter eggs and treasure hidden in the Oasis by the game master, James Halliday. Lots of references to pop culture and video games which I absolutely loved and could relate to! It’s a gamer / nerd’s dream come true! If you haven’t heard of this before, I’d recommend you read the book before watching the movie!
Introduced to me by my personal trainer, the Braverman test is a subjective analysis of your brain neurotransmitters to see a snapshot of your dominant and deficient chemicals. Very similar to a personality test, but results will show where each individual needs certain dietary and supplemental support! Found this quite interesting as I’m starting to take some supplements for training as well. Apparently my trainer also said this correlates to how your body reacts to high rep training vs. low rep training - super interesting! Nobody asked, but my dominant nature is Acetylcholine!
Health Tip Of The Week
I've been through this phase SO many times. That's why it's super important not to starve yourself! Even as I'm doing intermittent fasting now, I'm able to control my food intake so I don't ever lose control. Remember to eat nutritious, dense meals, but occasionally treat yourself to the foods you love!

As I grow older, I'm becoming increasingly picky with who I'm surrounding myself with. So far, I'm quite happy with my choices, but I'd still love to find someone I can learn from. Always be the dumbest one in the room, and you'll learn tons. Don't waste your time dealing with folks who are toxic and only discourage you from pursuing the things you want in life.
