Whenever I’m getting started with a new client or project, I like to do a kick-off workshop. If we’re in person, we get together with sharpies and post-it notes. If we’re remote, we join each other online with a tool like Trello or Mural. I’ve learned that even in cultures where a Design Thinking style workshop is outside the norm, it’s worth the effort to get the group collaboratively brainstorming before we begin developing a product strategy together. 
It reminds everyone that we are all on the same team and gives people a chance to feel heard. Most importantly, it gives everyone a sense of ownership over the work we’re about to go through together.
