All things new, notable, and happening in Anchorage, AK!

Happy Easter, Anchorage!
This week, I’m sharing stories about local heroes in honor of my father-in-law, Dan Fauske, who passed away earlier this month. He accomplished a number of incredibly impactful things for our state, but my favorite story of his exploits is the one I’ve shared below. Big wins often define us, but it’s the moments in between that truly make the man or woman.
Anchorage is full of people working to keep our city a wonderful place to live, from trying to stop the demolition of our lovely 4th Avenue Theater and building new trails to beautifying our trash cans and launching locally made food businesses.
I’m proud to live in a place where so many people give their time and energy to make a difference for all of us.
Love,
Gretchen
PS The Alaska Business Plan Competition is coming up on Friday - you should all come and watch the finalists pitch their startups! It’s been a record year for participation, and there some really cool businesses about to launch! Full disclosure: I’m on the organizing committee. So even if you’re not interested in delicious refreshments by the Bear Tooth, listening to the sweet spinning of DJ Spencer Lee, or the next big business, come to heckle me :)

LOCAL LOVE
Tasty and refreshing!
I scored a bottle of Jipping Ginger Beer this week, and it was so good: fresh, effervescent, and full of gingery deliciousness. I felt like I was sipping summer, and instantly longed for a Moscow Mule. Mike, the talent behind this brilliant creation, is hoping JGB will hit stores this summer and I highly recommend grabbing yourself a bottle… or ten.
