Greg Thinks Things
Hello Friends,
Welcome to Issue 2 of my newsletter. I wasn’t sure if this would become a thing or not, but much like my blog, I’m going to keep doing it and see where it goes. I’ve given up trying the pretend I’m a talented guy in technology writing, but people seem to enjoy my words anyway.
My usual response now would be at least a sentence of self-deprecation, but I’m trying to treat myself better and be more positive despite my hectic life throw stress at me. There are so many things going on in my life that I am living through my calendar and task list; however I have managed to see some really great stuff on my travels, and I will be sad to see my life on the road come to an end.

Episode 97: Eric Schmidt In A Hole with special guest Christopher Lawley — BYOD Podcast
Chris is an awesome guy and produces the best iPad coverage out there, check him out.
Things I've Read
Can “Indie” Social Media Save Us? | The New Yorker
Can we make the internet fun again? – Cheri Baker
Both of these posts are one the same subject as these feelings seem to be going around again. In fact the second is a semi-response or follow up to the New Yorker post. It is great to see get some publicity in such a high profile publication, it is a service I use regularly and will only grow going forward.

iPhone Photography Upgrades
For the past few months, I have been trying to take more photos and publish them online. Since deleting Instagram, it is something I have missed quite a lot and something that is a real shame about the ‘Facebookification’ of the platform. Following my talk with JF Martin on AYA I’ve taken some images in RAW using the Lightroom app, and I like the results.
I took this with an iPhone!
I’m still learning why and how I need to take RAW photos, but one of the real benefits of an Adobe subscription is they all show up on my Mac for editing. The image above I made following a guide in the app and then moved the sliders until I liked it more - the one above produces an effect called ‘matte colours’.
If anyone knows of some good guides out there, or would care to give me some help and advice it would be greatly received.

6 Things I Wish I Knew at 20

I actually watched this on Netflix, but links to shows don’t work very well. It should be available in other places, and is an interesting dive into what happens and why people create things.
Final Thoughts
I have managed to semi-finish my move back to WordPress, and it was as painful as I expected. I have had to make so many changes to PHP and CSS that it gave me a headache, don’t even get me started on the SQL stuff. I hope people like it and enjoy reading it as much as I like publishing things to it. I will talk next issue about how I now publish to WordPress because it is very different from my old Jekyll workflow.
I have been using Bear Notes app much more and its export in text bundle is key to publishing now. Stay tuned for more, but until then, take the very best care of yourselves
