🕰 Remember when the robots didn’t control our lives and we could actually forget to change our clocks? Longer days, brighter evenings are on their way and with that comes more socialising, right? Good, because on the 7th April we’ve arranged a few nibbles and drinks. You can grab some tickets here. Also, I’m diving back into the editing suite (the conservatory, surrounded by headless Lego minifigures) this week so new podcasts starting from next Monday. Whoop. Have a great week. *Last minute edit. Had the subject in for this week’s edition before Smith vs. Rock. 🥊

[REPORT] Candidate attraction.
Yep, it’s still the biggest challenge going so this in-depth report is well worth throwing yourself into the data and visualisations. It would be silly if I didn’t pick out this particular quote: Recruitment Marketing continues to be under- utilised by many recruitment teams, with most only sporadically using email and content marketing to promote their employer brand and vacancies.

Trust takes time, so does your marketing.
We can all be guilty of being a little short-termist when it comes to our recruitment marketing efforts but to get the best from our activities we need to build trust. And that takes time with content, feedback and change. Some strategies are included in this article from HBR.
|
First-time strategy?
Even if you’ve not just joined a recruitment/talent/staffing company as their first marketer, this is an excellent, recruitment focussed article. it gives you six areas to focus on in order to have an impact. sobering stat in there as well: 34% of recruitment marketers work for someone who knows nothing about Recruitment Marketing and employer branding; 56% are working for someone who is learning about RM/EB at the same time they are; and only 10% are learning about RM/EB from their manager.Â

Welcome to the new normal, it's the same as the old one.
It’s been a while since a Mark Ritson article was shared here, but this is (unsurprisingly), an alternative view on the new normal. Has that much really changed when it comes to marketing? Mark says not, Glenn kinda agrees. The boring brown line of continuity is pointing back to normality and a future that is different, but not too different, from the past.

You're so meta...
I’ve been in this game long enough to remember when Second Life entered our thinking. They held virtual career fairs and they were rubbish. The tech has changed now though and although we’re not quite there yet, thinking about the metaverse is not a bad idea. Here’s why.

...and on that note.
Standard, linking article from Hubspot to put some meat on the bones and how brands are currently exploring the new frontier.
|
How do you manage yourself and your teams?
Maybe by OKRs? The hybrid/remote work culture has brought this method of measurement back to the forefront. With a few conversations around how to measure performance, promote people and create career paths, this seems pretty pertinent.

Stats, stats and more stats.
A fair amount of US references in here but this is a really great list of trends and facts around B2B marketing. Useful to go through, to tick off things you may be doing and as a tool to maybe inspire new tactics.

Is the world of work ready to embrace neurodiversity?
Natalie Venturini has written a brilliantly open piece around neurodiversity, leaning on her personal experience with her son. Eye-opener.

Rules of Engagement
Paul Mellor of podcast episode #24 fame has brought together and fantastic article around creating rules of engagement. Much of it could be applied internally as well as externally. If you’re narcissistic, if you feel that you have the biggest balls in the room, and that you sure as hell know way more than anyone else – then you ain’t gonna create effective work, Mr Dominator.

EVPs: What you need to do to help clients attract passive candidates.
Future podcast guest, Rowena Wilding has written a nice little feature on EVPs here. Can’t wait to get her episode in your ears in the future weeks.

🇪🇸 This week I’ll be mainly getting ready for my first “social” overseas trip since 2019 as I had to Valencia for a long weekend. I’ve forgotten how to prepare for stag dos, haven’t got a clue on travel rules anymore and am certainly well out of practice when it comes to three days of sun and sangria. Wish me luck. Have a good one.
