Hello! I have had a busy few weeks, hence no Fair Warning. This week I was up in Birmingham to speak to the BBC’s Shared Data Unit and the journalists that are there for the next few weeks learning about how to do data journalism. It was interesting to find out what they’d been learning and working on and really nice to meet them. I hope my chat was useful to them!

Too far?
100 years of horror films, quantity vs quality: JOYPLOT!! I like this because it seems to show that horror films are definitely more about quantity than quality. The 20s was apparently a good decade for scary films.
The top Halloween costume in the US this year is Fortnite characters, according to Google search: I am so old that I only just about know what Fortnite is - with my tendency to get addicted to silly things I have decided to pretend it doesn’t exist.
Brits will spend £420m on Halloween this year: Lol, you losers. Guess who has two thumbs and is not spending a penny? THIS WOMAN.

A couple of last things that are not really to do with data journalism at all, before we finish. Introducing Sans Forgetica, a new font designed to help you remember things (H/T Scott Murray).
HuffPo did a piece on women being harassed with unsolicited pics through their phones. My advice to you, as a woman who once got sent a pic and immediately took action - change your phone/network/bluetooth name to a male or neutral name, and turn of Bluetooth if you’re not using it (saves battery!)
